When someone says Glenfinnan, you would probably think of the viaduct which made appearance in Harry Potter movie. And that is exactly what I was visiting, along with the beautiful Loch Shiel and monument.
The moment you enter Glenfinnan, you will spot a tall tower standing in the middle of plain close to Loch Shiel. If you want to visit the monument, you can buy tickets from the visitor centre and learn more about the history of this monument. But if views are the only thing you are after, there is a nice viewpoint behind the visitor centre. There are also Loch Shiel cruises if you would like to go on to the lake. For those travelling by car, there are to parking spots – one directly by visitor centre which is paid for and one across the bridge which is free but always full.
As a true Harry Potter fan it wasn´t enough to just see the viaduct from distance. I decided to walk to it. You can take the road from the free parking, which will lead you directly under the viaduct. You can get amazing pictures from there as well! If you want even more, you can climb up the hill to yet another viewpoint and take pictures from above the viaduct. Not many trains go that way, so if you want that a train in your pics, check the schedule (there is a Glenfinnan train station close by).
